The WFD At WorkAnother Paint Twp Brush FireApril 12 - At 1806 hours, units were dispatched to a brush fire on Sugar Maple Drive in Paint Township. Engine 611-1, Engine 611-2, and Chief 611 responded and found the fire involved a large portion of a field. Crews from the engine companies worked to contain and extinguish the fire using hand tools, indian tanks, and an attack line. All 611 units were back in service at 1850 hours. More Training on Truck 611April 7 - This week, Windber firefighters spent more time training on the department's ladder truck. Brush Fire in Paint TownshipApril 5 - Units were dispatched at 1510 hours to a brush fire on Morningland Drive. Chief 611 arrived to find less than one acre burning. Crews from Engine 611-1 and Engine 611-2 pulled lines to extinguish the main fire while Brush 3-1 and Brush 626 extinguished the outer edges of the fire. Meanwhile, Engine 616-1 reverse laid a supply line to the road for a water supply from Tanker 626. All units were back in service at 1621 hours. WFD Assists Motorist Stuck in MudApril 4 - The WFD ws dispatched to assist a motorist whose vehicle became stuck in the mud while attempting to turn around on Stout Road in Ogle Township. Squad 611, Deputy 611, and fire police responded. Two of the vehicle's occupants were given rides home by Deputy 611 while the other two occupants got rides from a family member. The vehicle was towed the following morning. Downed Wire Causes Small FireApril 3 - At 1729 hours, the WFD was dispatched to an alley behind the 400 block of Graham Avenue for a wire down. Personnel arrived to find a downed electrical wire arcing, along with a small grass fire and the burning ivy on the side of an old wooden garage. Engine 611-1's crew laid a supply line from a fire hydrant, pulled an attack line, and stood by until Penelec arrived to cut the power. Once the power was shut off, firefighters extinguished the small fire and checked for extension in the garage. All 611 units were back in service at 1806 hours. Three Calls To Start AprilApril 1 - The month started with a vehicle accident at 1126 hours on Spruce Street in Paint Township. Engine 611-1, Squad 611, Engine Captain 611, and fire police arrived to find three patients still inside a vehicle that was in a yard. The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver's side rear door. The engine crew secured the vehicle, checked for hazards, and assisted EMS with patient extrication while the squad crew cleared debris. All 611 units were back in service at 1156 hours. Then at 1253 hours, the WFD was dispatched to a fire alarm on Somerset Avenue. Truck 611 responded to investigate, determined it was a false alarm, and was back in service 10 minutes later. The last call was at 1907 when Engine 611-1 was dispatched to assist Adams Township for smoke inside a Centennial Drive residence. Engine 611-1 was back in service at 1927 hours. |
